Bletchingly Stakes 2012 Field & Barriers

July 25th, 2012

This Saturday, August 28, the 2012 Bletchingly Stakes will bring Group racing to a close in Australia for another season and the final field and barrier draw for the Caulfield feature have now been released.

Due to jump as Caulfield Race 6 at 3:07pm (local time) the $125,000 Group 3 Bletchingly Stakes (1200m) has this year drawn a final field of 15 sprinters.

Among the 15 Bletchingly Stakes 2012 acceptances are three Group 1 winners.

Green Birdie will wear the No. 1 saddlecloth the former Hong Kong galloper now prepared locally by Tony Vasil.

Winner of the 2011 Krisflyer International Sprint in Singapore the veteran Catbird eight-year-old has drawn barrier two with Damien Oliver to ride as they look to improve on their first-up seventh in the Listed Sir John Monash Stakes (1100m) in the wet at Caulfield a fortnight ago which was their maiden run down under since November of 2006.

David Hayes will be represented by his 2011 Oakleigh Plate winner Eagle Falls in barrier six, the out-of-form Hussonet six-year-old looking for their first win since the Group 3 Rubiton Stakes (1100m) which they won first-up at Caulfield back in February.

The last of the elite level winners is also the one with the best chance on Saturday with the Mick Price-trained Heart Of Dreams set to resume in the Bletchingly from barrier five.

The dual Group 1 champ (2009 Underwood Stakes, 2009 Australian Guineas) was last seen running sixth in the 2011 Underwood last September having been recovering from a knee injury ever since.

Price however is happy with their progress and believes they will handle their fitness test in the Bletchingly without issue on Saturday.

“He’s still very vibrant horse with plenty of energy about him,” Price said.

“He didn’t have an operation or anything, his owner was quite happy to be patient and give him a nice long spell, which we did and was good, and he’s had pretty much a perfect prep and his knees are good.

“He’s done some dressage work and he’s done some beach work and he had a good time since he’s been back at Caulfield.

“He’s very sound, I’ve done some galloping with him and he has not done anything wrong and he’s pulled up good.

“There’s no heat in his knees or anything, so it’s all very good.”

The only last start winner in the 2012 Bletchingly Stakes field is then the Peter Moody-trained Ready To Rip who comes off a resuming victory in the Listed All Victorian Sprint Final (1200m) at Flemington at the start of the month which was their debut run for Moody.

Meanwhile the two most notable defectors from the Bletchingly Stakes this year were in-form fillies Platelet and Le Societe who will instead run in the $80,000 Listed Lightning Stakes (1050m) in Adelaide this Saturday.
