Ready To Rip Wins Bletchingly Stakes 2012

July 30th, 2012

Triple Victorian Trainers’ Premiership winner Peter Moody enjoyed success in the season’s final Group race at Caulfield on the weekend with his new stable acquisition Ready To Rip taking out the 2012 Bletchingly Stakes.

Having won their debut for their new trainer Moody a fortnight ago when taking out the Listed All Victorian Sprint Final (1200m) at Flemington, More Than Ready four-year-old Ready To Rip continued the good form on Saturday with another stakes success this time in the Group 3 Bletchingly Stakes (1200m).

Ridden by Black Caviar’s jockey Luke Nolen, Ready To Rip ($5) showed good improvement on their first-up win and was able to beat home progressive three-year-old and $3.20 favourite Zamorar by a half length.

Dusty Star ($5.50) finished off the winning Bletchingly Stakes trifecta just a nose further back in third ahead of international Group 1 winner Green Birdie ($4.60) who was over two and a half lengths off the winner.

“I thought his work was a bit plain before he won at Flemington but his work on Tuesday showed he had really lifted,” Moody said of Ready To Rip.

“In Queensland, he was a bit of a first-up specialist, so it’s a good effort to win at weight-for-age second-up.”

Moody also won the Bletchingly Stakes last year with his subsequent Stradbroke Handicap winner Mid Summer Music, and he hopes like she did that Ready To Rip will continue to surprise him.

Set to continue on this Melbourne Spring Racing Carnival Ready To Rip is likely to run third-up in the $220,000 Group 2 P.B. Lawrence Stakes (1400m) at Caulfield on August 18 which will determine where they go from there.

“We’re still learning about him,” Moody said.

“But what we know already is that he’s a very honest, genuine horse with a fair share of ability.

“His owners deliberately missed this year’s winter carnival in Brisbane to give him his best chance down here and he’s made the decision a good one.

“He obviously enjoys the sting out of the ground as well, so if it stays a little bit damp for August we should be able to find another race for him there somewhere.”

Moody also indicated that a trip up to Queensland next winter could also be on the cards where they would look to emulate Mid Summer Music by winning the $1 million Group 1 Stradbroke Handicap (1400m).

“We won it (the Bletchingly) with the Stradbroke winner last year, so may lightning strike twice,” Moody said.

“I always underrated her (Mid Summer Music) and this bloke’s snuck under my guard also.

“It’d be lovely to dream those sorts of things, but we’ll poke a little but further into the spring.”
