Racing Victoria have released the nominations for the Bletchingly Stakes 2013, which is set to be run at Caulfield on Saturday July 27, with fifteen sprinters included in the early entries for the weight-for-age event.
The Group 3 Bletchingly Stakes (1200m) is the last Group event of the year and offers a number of runners the opportunity to record the biggest win of their racing career.
One sprinter looking to record his first ever win at Group level is David Hayes-trained Pago Rock.
Pago Rock recorded a strong victory over a quality field in the Listed John Monash Stakes (1100m) at Caulfield last Saturday and is searching for his third straight win.
The rising six-year-old has an impressive record of ten wins from eighteen career starts and has been successful at Caulfield on three occasions.
Peter Moody has trained the winner of the Bletchingly Stakes in the two previous editions of the race and has nominated both Kneeling and Mr Make Believe for the event this year.
Kneeling is coming off back-to-back wins at the Queensland Winter Racing Carnival while Moody will be hoping Mr Make Believe can improve on his previous two starts after failing to beat a runner home in the Slickpix Handicap (1200m) at Moonee Valley and the Listed All Victorian Sprint Final (1200m) at Flemington.
Elite Elle finished second behind Pago Rock in the John Monash Stakes and is set to have the seventh run of a lengthy campaign in the Bletchingly Stakes.
The Shamardal filly has been the bookmaker.com.aus’ friend during her racing career and has been beaten as a favourite on several occasions but appeared to improve when blinkers were applied for the first time at her last start.
Second Effort is the best credentialed horse included in the Bletchingly Stakes nominations and trainer Clinton McDonald will be hoping he can win as he advances to more difficult races during the 2013 Spring Racing Carnival.
After running in the Bletchingly Stakes, Second Effort will advance to the Group 2 PB Lawrence Stakes (1400m) and Group 1 Memsie Stakes (1400m) and really needs to be winning this race if he is going to be competitive against the strong fields that are expected in those feature races.
The full 2012 Bletchingly Stakes nominations are listed in the table below.
