Bletchingly Stakes 2013 Final Field And Barriers

July 25th, 2013

The final field and barrier draw for the Group 3 Bletchingly Stakes (1200m), the final Group race of the 2012/2013 racing season, has been released.

The $150,000 Bletchingly Stakes will be run at 3.12pm at Caulfield on Saturday with a strong field of eleven talented sprinters set to take part.

The race has a very similar look to the Listed Sir John Monash Stakes (1100m) that was run at Caulfield a fortnight ago with the four first placegetters – Pago Rock, Elite Elle, Second Effort and Stanzout – all set to take part.

Pago Rock is aiming to record his third straight victory and his first ever win at Group 3 level.

The Rock of Gibraltar gelding is a proven winner, with a winning percentage of 58%, and trainer David Hayes believes the rising six-year-old is good enough to compete at Group 1 level in the Memsie Stakes (1400m) and Sir Rupert Clarke Stakes (1400m) this spring.

Elite Elle looked as though she was on track for superstardom when she won the first four races of her career but has failed to live up to her potential despite recording a narrow victory in the Paul Williamson Handicap (1200m) at Caulfield in May.

The Shamardal filly has proven a nightmare for punters but impressed with a brave front-running effort in the John Monash.

Second Effort flashed home to finish third first-up in the John Monash and is expected to start the Bletchingly Stakes as a clear favourite.

With plenty of wet weather around in Melbourne the Caulfield track is expected to be in the heavy range, which will suit the Mossman gelding who has recorded nine wins from eleven starts on rain-affected tracks.

Second Effort is another horse who will be chasing Group 1 honors in the spring with the Memsie Stakes (1400m) his major target.

Crowd favourite Stanzout will be having the sixty-ninth run of his racing career after returning from retirement to finish fourth in the Sir John Monash Stakes.

The rising eleven-year-old simply loves racing and is guaranteed to give it his all again on Saturday, although he hasn’t been victorious since his win in the Australian Flooring Plate (1000m) at Moonee Valley in 2010.

Talented Darley gelding Launay is set to make his first appearance at the races since finishing fourth behind Blamey Stakes winner Budriguez in the Group 3 Victoria Handicap (1400m) at Caulfield in March.

The son of Lonhro generally performs well first-up and is another horse that is searching for his first win at Group 3 level.
