Having returned to racing in exceptional form this season, exciting sprinter Lord Of The Sky has opened as and maintained clear favouritism in betting markets for success, currently offered at odds of $1.60, ahead of Le Bonsir ($7), Thiamandi ($8.50) and Nearest To Pin ($9).

Will Lord Of The Sky justify favouritism and secure another resounding victory, or will one of his talented rivals find the line in the clear?

1st

Lord Of The Sky ($1.60)

Securing an impressive record of five wins and one minor places from just eight competitive starts, all signs seem towards another comfortable victory for Lord Of The Sky in the 2014 Bletchingly Stakes. Unlucky to finish second by a short nose when blocked for a run and squeezed out in the final straight of the Auckland Racing Club Handicap (1000m) first-up on April 25th, the Danerich colt charged home to win the Listen Learn Speak Handicap (1000m) on May 17th before strolling in to win the Group 3 Sir John Monash Stakes (1100m) by nearly five lengths last time out. Allocated the central barrier 5, trainer Robbie Laing is confident of another strong win for Lord Of The Sky this weekend ahead of another likely step up in class.

2nd

Gig ($14)

While lining up for her 16th competitive appearance this preparation in the Bletchingly Stakes, talented mare Gig without doubt offers punters the best value for money at current $14 odds for victory, or $2.85 for a place. Contesting three Group 1 feature races in 2014 already, Gig is yet to break through for a victory at the highest level of Australian racing but has far from disgraced herself in finishing sixth in the Group 1 William Reid Stakes (1200m), sixth in the Group 1 Robert Sangster Classic (1200m) and an unlucky eighth in the Group 1 Tattersall’s Tiara (1400m) on June 21st; blocked for a run in the final straight. Allocated the ideal barrier 6, the Commands mare has been confirmed to be partnered by talented jockey Vlad Duric and is more than worth a wager at current odds.

3rd

Nearest To Pin ($9)

Claiming eight wins and as many minor places from just 23 competitive starts so far, Nearest To Pin is arguably one of South Australia’s most exciting sprinting prospects and is offered great chance to stamp his name as one to watch nationally in the Bletchingly Stakes. Returning to racing this season for third in the Listed Matrice Stakes (1200m) on March 10th, the Golden Lake gelding has continued to build in class and form on his way to undoubtedly his biggest race win to date in the Listed All Victorian Sprint Final (1200m) on July 12th. Undoubtedly in career-best form, Nearest To Pin is worth consideration for a wager in the 2014 Bletchingly Stakes, particularly as a trifecta selection.
