Price Unsure Le Bonsir Can Win 2014 Bletchingly Stakes

July 25th, 2014

A consistent performer over Victorian sprinting events this season, trainer Mick Price has conceded he is unsure Le Bonsir will have the pace and talent to match resounding favourite Lord Of The Sky in this weekend’s featured Group 3 Bletchingly Stakes (1200m) at Caulfield.

Finishing outside the places just twice in seven starts this campaign, Le Bonsir has hit particularly exceptional form over his two most recent starts; finishing second in both the Group 3 Sir John Monash Stakes (1100m) and Listed All Victorian Sprint Final (1200m) last time out.

While confident Le Bonsir is in peak form heading into the Bletchingly Stakes, Price said he believes Lord Of The Sky may be performing just a little too well to be hassled for the victory on Saturday.

“I haven’t checked second prizemoney yet,” Price said in jest to Racing Ahead.

“We have a great bunch of people in it and they go to the races in a nice race.

“He is going to earn a good whack of prizemoney and if there is a chink in the armour of Lord Of The Sky, which there is probably not.

“He couldn’t beat Lord Of The Sky on everything that I have seen so far.

“He is at his top and his form is really good, but it can’t get much better unless something goes arrie with Lord Of The Sky.

“He is really good and he will run up to his best.”

Securing an impressive total of eight race wins and 12 minor places 31 competitive starts so far, Le Bonsir displayed a keen turn of foot to finish s short nose behind It Is Written in the Listed Abell Stakes (1200m) first-up on March 14th, and has since continued to build in form and class over six proceeding starts, which also included a close second to Lonhspresso in the Listed Straight Six (1200m) on May 24th.

Leading online bookie is currently offering the best early odds on the 2014 Bletchingly Stakes, for which Le Bonsir is currently available at generous odds of $6.50 for success; featuring as sole occupant of the second line of betting behind Lord Of The Sky ($1.60).
