Having also accepted a position in the final field of the Listed Lightning Stakes (1050m) at South Australia’s Morphettville Racecourse this weekend, trainer Lloyd Kennewell has confirmed exciting sprinter Thiamandi will contest the featured Group 3 Bletchingly Stakes (1200m) at Caulfield.

A South Australian native, initial reports seemed to hint towards Thiamandi remaining in Adelaide to jump clear favourite in that racing card’s headliner, however the small field of just eight confirmed for the Bletchingly offered a greater chance of success.

Speaking from his buck’s party abroad in the USA, Kennewell told The Advertiser he believes the conditions and distance of the Caulfield track and Bletchingly Stakes should play directly into the strengths of the Street Boss filly this weekend.

“She’ll run in Melbourne,’’ Kennewell confirmed.

“She’s done really well since her last win in Melbourne.

“We could have run her in Adelaide, but we’re really keen to see her run in Melbourne against those horses at weight-for-age level.

“It’s not the strongest Group 3 race so it’s a good opportunity to test her.’’

Securing an impressive total of five wins and three minor places from just 16 competitive starts so far, Thiamandi was a notable performer over a short winter preparation in 2013; remaining in Adelaide to contest the 2013 edition of the Lightning Stakes, for which she finished a fighting fourth.

Quickly building to the task this time in, the filly out of Country Class was unlucky to be blocked for a run and fifth in the Adelaide Galvanising BM90 (1000m) first-up, but returned to the winner’s circle with back-to-back triumphs in the Saroa Horses’ Birthday Lunch (1000m) and Cove Hotel Handicap (1100m) most recently.

Allocated the ideal barrier 3, Thiamandi has been confirmed to be partnered by talented jockey Michael Rodd and is currently available at generous odds of $8.50 for success in the 2014 Bletchingly Stakes; $1.95 to run a place with leading online bookie Ladbrokes.com.au.
