Angels Beach Primed for 2015 Bletchingly Stakes

July 20th, 2015

Trainer Peter Moody has been pleased with the form displayed and results posted by Angels Beach this time and is confident the classy mare is capable of success in Saturday’s featured Group 3 Bletchingly Stakes (1200m) at Caulfield Racecourse.

Angels Beach has won six of her 15 competitive race starts so far; finishing in the first three a further five times including a particularly impressive performance last time out for second behind Miss Promiscuity in the Group 3 Sir John Monash Stakes (1100m) on July 4th.

Confident the conditions of the race will suit, Moody told the Sydney Morning Herald he is thrilled with Angels Beach and believes she is primed for a second black type success.

“She is a mare that has some black type already and it would be an ideal way for her to go out and head to stud with another black-type win,” Moody said.

“It is the right race for her and (after her second in Sir John Monash Stakes last time) she has the right form.”

Angels Beach has been a strong and consistent performer for Moody since first appearing on course in late 2012, but has suffered from a few minor ailments early in preparations that have somewhat limited her career.

Returning late in 2013 in typically competitive form, the daughter of Bel Esprit finished second in a Flemington minor over 1200m first-up before placing fourth behind the likes of Vain Queen in the Sportingbet Sprint Series Heat (1000m) most notably.

Arguably posting career-best form to date through a short but impressive 2014 autumn campaign, Angels Beach claimed three wins from as many starts, including the Listed Manihi Classic (1050m) in late March.

Returning in spring for second in the Listed Carlyon Stakes (1000m), Angels Beach returned to the winner’s circle in the Apache Cat Classic (1000m) but was unlucky to be blocked for a run and seventh in the Listed Early Grey Stakes (1000m) on Melbourne Cup Day.

Included amongst a classy list of nominations on Monday, Angels Beach is expected to be confirmed in the 2015 Bletchingly Stakes final field and barrier draw on Wednesday.
