2015 Bletchingly Stakes Final Field and Barrier Draw

July 22nd, 2015

A talented group of eleven sprinters have been confirmed in the final field for Saturday’s Group 3 Bletchingly Stakes (1200m) at Caulfield Racecourse; highlighted by the inclusion of several exciting Spring Carnival prospects.

Smokin’ Joey was a late nominee for the 2015 Bletchingly Stakes but is likely to find suitable running position for his style early from barrier 9.

A Group 1 winner having taken out the 2014 edition of the The Goodwood (1200m), Smokin’ Joey returned to racing in typically competitive form this year; placing fourth in the Group 2 Australia Stakes (1200m) before returning to the winner’s circle in the Group 3 Carlyon (1600m).

Running a close second in the Group 1 Futurity Stakes (1400m) and fourth in the Group 2 Blamey Stakes (1600m) in his next two starts, the Encosta De Lago gelding failed to make an impact in two proceeding Group 1 starts but carried winning form into a freshen up after taking out the Listed Eye Liner Stakes (1350m) most recently on June 13th.

Petrology has been confirmed to be partnered by champion hoop Damien Oliver in the 2015 Bletchingly Stakes but will need luck in running after being allocated the somewhat wide and awkward barrier 10.

Petrology was unable to post much of a consistent run of form through the early stages of the 2014 spring, but saved himself from a gelding when taking out each of the Listed TV Stakes (1800m) and Group 2 Sandown Guineas (1600m) in succession.

Returning this year for second in the Group 3 Manfred Stakes (1300m) on January 26th, the Fastnet Rock colt failed to fire in his next two starts but has reportedly taken huge benefit from his time away from racing.

Former Perth mare Platinum Rocker will contest her first start for Lee and Shannon Hope in the 2015 Bletchingly Stakes and has been confirmed to be partnered by notable hoop Craig Williams.

Having finished a close second in the 2013 edition of the Group 1 Railway Stakes (1600m) most notably, the daughter of Love A Dane failed to make anything of an impact through her most recent campaign but should be suited to the 2015 Bletchingly Stakes conditions.
