2016 Bletchingly Stakes an Option for Prince Of Brooklyn

June 20th, 2016

The 2016 Bletchingly Stakes (1200m) may figure as an ideal target for Prince Of Brooklyn, after the colt returned to racing with a slashing performance for second at Moonee Valley over the weekend.

Prince Of Brooklyn had not been seen at the races since failing to fire or beat a single runner home in the Listed Pin & Win Stakes (1400m) at Flemington on September 12th, but did his chances of success first-up no harm whatsoever when jumping well in the Kane Constructions 3.y.o Handicap (1200m).

Having settled within the field of ten, the son of Magnus produced a smart turn of foot and savaged the line for a close second behind Firsthand.

Trainer Mick Price told Racing Victoria that the horse has been particularly hard to understand, and he is yet to figure out what the best points of call will be for Prince Of Brooklyn this time in.

“I don’t know what to do with him,” Price said.

“It was good to see him with a clean set of lungs because I had a lot of trouble with him – he’s a horse that maybe suffers from allergies.

“He had me confused that horse – I had a really good opinion of him.

“He’s a full brother to Duke of Brunswick so I’m not sure if he gets a mile or is a good 1200m horse.

“I haven’t quite nailed that horse yet. I just need to get him winning a bit. Get him back in form.”

Prince Of Brooklyn has made only five competitive appearances at the races since debuting midway through 2015; claiming two wins and one minor.

Trialling well in the lead-up to his debut, Prince Of Brooklyn immediately stamped himself as one to watch with an impressive performance in the Group 3 National Stakes (1200m) at Morphettville; repeating the dose in the Elvstroem Classic (1300m) before returning to the paddock.

Having run sixth in the Group 3 McNeil Stakes (1200m) upon resuming in spring, in what was his only other start prior to the Pin & Win Stakes, Prince Of Brooklyn would be well suited to the 2016 Bletchingly Stakes conditions should that be the avenue taken this time.
