Co-trainer Terry O’Sullivan has confirmed that stable star Magnapal will make his long-awaited return to racing in Saturday’s 2016 Bletchingly Stakes (1400m) at Caulfield Racecourse.

Magnapal has posted a number of commendable results throughout his entire racing career so far, but undoubtedly found peak condition through the 2015 Spring Carnival; peaking with a win in the Group 3 Naturalism Stakes (2000m) and subsequent berth in the Caulfield Cup.

Having undergone surgery to remove bone fragments following his spring campaign, O’Sullivan told AAP he is thrilled with the rising seven-year-old’s conditions and is confident he has completely overcome all ailments leading into the 2016 Bletchingly Stakes.

“They think it was pretty successful so we’re probably not far from finding out,” O’Sullivan said.

“He seems really good at the moment.”

O’Sullivan revealed the horse will be set on a similar path during the forthcoming Spring Carnival as the one he contested in 2015, but will progress to the Group 2 PB Lawrence Stakes (1400m) in a fortnight before a defence of his crown in the Listed Heatherlie Stakes (1700m).

“We’ll go along a similar line to last year,” O’Sullivan said.

“We’ll probably run him in the Peter Lawrence (August 13) and then we might go to the 1700 metre race he won last year.

“But we’re waiting to see how he comes through Saturday and work it out from there.”

Resuming last spring for success in the WillHillWolfpack BM90 (1400m), Magnapal was far too good for his rivals when taking out the Heatherlie Stakes by close to two lengths on August 29th.

Continuing his winning run of form through the Naturalism Stakes, the Magnus gelding battled away in the Group 3 JRA Cup (2040m) on October 2nd but failed to make up the ground required on runaway leader Escado; finishing second.

Given little chance of success in the Caulfield Cup most recently on October 17th, Magnapal was simply outclassed; finishing the race fourteenth of eighteen runners.

The 2016 Bletchingly Stakes field and barrier draw is due to be completed and released by midday, today.
