Trainer David Hayes has no doubt Fast ‘N’ Rocking will overcome a wide draw when he lines up for the 2016 Group 3 Bletchingly Stakes (1200m) at Caulfield on Saturday.
Fast ‘N’ Rocking has returned to racing in typically smart and competitive form this year, but was completely luckless in running in the Group 3 Sir John Monash Stakes (1100m) a fortnight ago and finished sixth.
Allocated barrier 11 in a field containing twelve horses, Hayes told AAP he is thrilled with the Fastnet Rock gelding’s condition and is confident he will lay a great account for himself in the 2016 Bletchingly Stakes.
“I’m very happy with him and when you get him in the right race and the tempo is right, he normally runs well,” Hayes said.
“I think it is probably an advantage. He got blocked in last start, so he won’t get blocked in this time.
“He’ll come down the outside.
“He should have probably finished second last start and might have nearly won.
“He never got out of second gear.”
Fast ‘N’ Rocking has posted five wins and eight minors through a total of forty career starts, since first appearing on course competitively during the 2012 Spring Carnival.
Ending a strong 2015 campaign third in the Group 1 Winterbottom Stakes (1200m) in Perth, Fast ‘N’ Rocking clearly required a run when resuming this year for tenth in the Group 1 Oakleigh Plate (1100m), but responded well with a well-fought fourth in the Group 1 William Reid Stakes (1200m) on March 24th.
Failing to fire when eighth in the Group 1 TJ Smith Stakes (1200m) on Day 1 of The Championships, Fast ‘N’ Rocking responded with another good run for fourth amongst a talented and capacity field in the Group 1 The Goodwood (1200m) on May 21st, in what was his only other run prior to the Sir John Monash Stakes.
